Biography

Sihan Guo began her first lessons with Angela in the summer of 2002 (at the age of 5). In 2004, she passed her RCM Grade 4 piano examination with first class honors. The subsequent year, she was awarded the Young Music Explorer piano scholarship. In 2006, Sihan won first prize in the Montreal Classical Music Competiton. In April 2007, Sihan won First Prize in the Lakeshore Chamber Music Society Music Competition (in Montreal, Quebec) performing Chopin's Waltz in E minor (Opus Posthumous). She also appeared as soloist at the Society's Annual Student Concert on the 15th April 2007 performing her winning repertoire. In 2007 May, Sihan again won First Prize and was awarded the Marie-Jeanne Fortier Trophy in the Montreal Classical Music Competition (in Montreal, Quebec) with a score of 97% [Category 9 years and under] performing a contrasting repertoire of Canadian composer Alexina Louie's Distant Memories and Chopin's Waltz in E minor (Op. Posthumous). She will be performing at the Montreal Classical Music Competition Winner's concert.

Since an early age, Sihan has participated in numerous public performances. Besides performing as solo pianist in Angela's annual Christmas concerts, Sihan has performed benefit concerts at the Chateau Dollard for senior residents, as well as participated at the Canadian Music Festival (organized by the Quebec Music Teacher's Association). Sihan has also appeared in multiple solo piano recitals organized by the Quebec Music Teacher's Association. Sihan has also attended regular master classes with her "grand teacher", Prof. Philip Cohen to hone her musicianship and artistry.

Besides solo performance, Sihan is also actively involved in musical ensembles. Sihan has performed duets with her musical partner Chun Ming Liang in the 2004 Christmas Concert at the Trestler House, as well as premiered the Rondo Facile by young composer Giancarlo Scalia (a commissioned work for 8 hands on one piano) with pianists Emily and Jacqueline To, and Kathleen Wong.

In her spare time, Sihan likes to play with her little brother and listen to music. Her favorite pianists are Evgeny Kissin and Lang Lang. Sihan's plans are to become an outstanding pianist someday, and to participate in the Montreal International Piano Competition when she reaches the ripe old age of 16.
